Your second firm should land faster than your first.

For funds and operators getting into an AI roll-up. Each accounting firm you buy gets its own workspace, with AI agents connected to the books, inbox and files it already runs. What your team builds at firm one deploys at the next in minutes, so firm two doesn't start from zero.

Integration

The hard part starts the week after the deal closes.

The checklist leaves with the partner

Month-end close lives in the retiring partner's head: which client always sends statements late, which ledger needs a manual fix every quarter. They sign the sale, step back, and the steps nobody wrote down go with them.

Clients who only answer the founder

Some of the best clients reply only when the founder emails. A new name asks for receipts and hears nothing, a deadline slips, and the client starts wondering whether the firm they trusted still exists under its new owner.

Firm two starts from zero

Firm one finally has its AI running against its own ledger, inbox and practice software. Firm two arrives on a different package, with books kept in three places, and nobody can say which parts of the first setup carry over.

Inside each firm

The agent writes down what the seller knows.

Inside the firm's workspace, the agent runs on its own dedicated server and connects to the inbox, files and accounting package the firm already uses. Anything client-facing waits until a named person approves it.

How it works

Run every firm from the fund's seat.

Each firm in its own workspace A firm's data, connected accounts, apps, agents and written knowledge stay in that workspace, apart from every sibling firm. The firm's staff see their own workspace and nothing else in the portfolio.

The holdco holds the keys Holdco owners and admins move between firms from a single login, all grouped in one switcher. Agents in all of them bill to the holdco's subscription. If someone leaves the holdco, they lose access to every firm at once.

What firm one built travels The intake app or month-end tracker your team built for the first firm deploys into the next firm's workspace in minutes. Each acquisition starts with tools your people already trust, and each firm gets its own copy.

What stays human

Roll-ups die of churn. Clients shouldn't notice the sale.

Same firm, same channels Clients keep emailing, messaging on WhatsApp and calling the firm they already know, so the relationship stays where it was. The agent reads that firm's procedures and client notes before it drafts a reply.

A named person approves Anything that reaches a client, commits money or gets published can wait for a named person's approval. In the first weeks, hold everything and read what the agent would have sent. Hold less once the drafts earn it.

The accountant still signs Regulated work stays with the qualified person. In an accounting firm, the agent gathers the documents and prepares the paperwork for review, and the accountant or partner checks it and signs. Clients keep the professional they hired.

AI roll-up software questions

What is AI roll-up software?

AI roll-up software is what a fund or operator uses to run the service firms it buys, with AI agents handling the routine work inside each one. You'll also see it spelled AI rollup. On Clawnify, each acquired firm gets its own workspace and its own agents, each on a dedicated server. The agents connect to the inbox, calendar and accounting package the firm already uses, and read its written procedures before they act. Holdco owners and admins can open any firm from the same account, and the fund keeps the firms, the workspaces and the data.

What does an AI roll-up look like in accounting?

Funds buying them describe small accounting firms that often run at 5 to 10 percent profit, with work that repeats every month and every tax season. Thrive Capital, buying through its acquisition arm Current, is reported to have bought close to 50 firms in 24 months. At Larson Gross, a 200-person firm, one task reportedly fell from 180 hours a year to 15, and its accountants saved 31 percent of their time on average. All of these are the companies' own figures.

Why do AI roll-ups stall after the deal closes?

Integration, almost every time. Getting the AI to work inside one firm is the easy half. Each firm arrives with books kept its own way, steps that live only in the seller's memory, and clients who are loyal to one person. If every acquisition needs a fresh project, the tenth costs as much as the first and nothing compounds. Investors who've watched roll-ups fail point to churn, especially when the AI is used only to cut headcount. The test worth watching is simple: does the second firm go live faster than the first?

Do we need our own AI engineers?

You don't need an AI lab to start. The agents run inside each firm's workspace, connected to the accounts the firm already has, and they can build internal apps for that firm too. Someone on your team still has to own the rollout, write down how each firm works and review what the agents draft. Archer Lewis Group, which reports 47 firms acquired and more than 50,000 clients, says the job takes management and operational expertise as well as AI capability.

How is each acquired firm kept separate?

Each firm is its own workspace under the holdco. Its data, connected accounts and credentials, apps, agents and company knowledge stay there and are never shared with a sibling firm. The firm's own staff see only their workspace. Holdco owners and admins get access through their holdco membership, so when someone leaves the holdco, their access to every firm ends at once. On paid tiers, each workspace can also keep its AI processing pinned to the EU or the US.

How is AI roll-up software billed?

Every agent in every firm bills to the holdco's subscription, however many firms you add. Firm workspaces have no checkout of their own, so nobody at an acquired firm sets up payment or keeps a card on file. It runs on the multi-company plan. Book a call and we'll set it up around the first firm you're buying.

Will the margin gains from an AI roll-up last?

Investors following these deals disagree. One side argues that once every firm in a sector runs on AI, margins lifted from 10 to 30 percent EBITDA get competed back toward 10. The other says doing the automation well across dozens of messy firms is hard enough to be a moat in itself. Long Lake, which owns 18 property management companies, says its margins doubled in under two years, a company-reported figure. We'd only add this: the gain that lasts is the one that repeats at the next firm.

Can clients still reach a person, and does the accountant still sign?

Yes to both. Clients keep reaching the firm by email, WhatsApp or phone, the same way they did before the deal. Messages to clients, payments and anything published can be held until the right person at the firm approves them. The agent never signs, files or certifies regulated work. In an accounting firm it gathers what the return needs, and a qualified accountant reviews it and puts their name to it.

The deal.

You keep the firms, and the AI does the repeat work.

Every agent runs on a dedicated server from day one, and the firms and their data stay yours.
